Broccoli and turnips can help prostate cancer

Despite huge efforts to study, understand and treat prostate cancer, it is the second leading causeof cancer death in men in the United States. This is partly due to the fact that advanced prostate cancer cells showvery little positive response to even the strongest radiations or chemotherapy treatments. However, researchers atRutgers have discovered that when combined, turmeric, also known as curcumin, along with phenethyl isothiocyanate(PEITC), show promise in treating prostate cancers. PEITC exists naturally in a group of vegetables that includeswatercress, cabbage, winter cress, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, cauliflower, kohlrabi and turnips. Currently thestudies have shown to be effective in mice studies. The complete article can be seen in the Jan. 15 issue of thejournal Cancer Research.
